Bennett was taken off the ventilator this morning at 9am and put on bubble cpap (prongs that go in his nose and provide gentle pressure while he breathes on his own)! His nurse said he wasn't very happy with them when they took him off the vent, but when we got to the hospital at 1pm he was swaddled, had his pacifier, and was a happy boy. He still was a little sensitive to touch and sound, but he did great! His blood gas at 3pm showed that he was tolerating being off the vent and we are hopeful that it stays that way! He is up to 25cc's on his tube feeds and they turned down his TPN and Lipids (food through his IV). Hopefully he will be off the TPN and Lipids in a few days then he gets to get his PICC line out of his foot. He is our little fighter and I never could have asked him to do this well this fast. We are so PROUD of him!
The nurse had him all tucked in! He was happy as long as he had his pacifier! His face already had swelling from the bubble cpap, but that will go away when they take him off.
Blake got to move up to a open air crib today! One more step to him being closer to coming home. If he tolerates being in a open crib and continues to gain weight we think he may be home sometime next week :-)
Blake dressed as warm as possible for his first trial in his open air crib...Mommy didn't want him to get cold! He had a fleece footie, fleece blanket and his hat. His temp was 98.3 after being open for 3 hours...he was sleeping soooooo good :-)
Currently Blake weighs 4 pounds 0.9 ounces and Bennett weighs 4 pounds 3 ounces.
It is so hard to believe that this is the week (34 weeks) that they were going to be born if I hadn't gone into labor. I can't imagine both of them somehow still fitting inside! I think they came when they were ready and when Bennett couldn't benefit any longer. Everything happens for a reason and we are so blessed that they are doing so well.
Daddy holding Bennett for the first time on Sunday (4/3/11). I think Bennet knows when he gets picked up he is going to get held now because he does much better getting in and out of his bed. Jason held him for 2 hours and he did great. He loves his daddy!
