Boys are Doing Great!

A quick update on the boys today...

Bennett is still on the bubble cpap and doing great.  He is a much happier baby today!  He is on 21% oxygen which is the same as room air...he just needs a little extra pressure to help keep his lungs open.  I got to hold him today for the first time since he has been on cpap.  He was a happy boy in his mamma's arms :-)  The doctor today said he will keep him on the cpap for "several days" and will discontinue his TPN an lipids tomorrow and have his PICC line out in a few days.  He is getting rid of lines and machines left and right!  He passed his eye test for premature retinopathy (eye damage due to high amounts of oxygen in premature babies)!  He is still on 25cc feeds of fortified breast milk and formula and tolerating them well.  Today Bennett weighed 4 pounds 5 ounces!

2nd day on CPAP...he was happiest with his pacifier, except that he can't keep it in his mouth by himself yet!

If we cover his eyes from the light in the room he will try to open his eyes...it is such a treat because he doesn't do it very often!

Blake is doing great in his open air crib.  I got to give him a big boy bath today for the first time.  I think if he had it his way he would stay stinky!  They only part of the bath that he didn't scream through was when we washed his hair.  It was so nice to have a baby that smelled like a baby for the first time today...it's amazing what a little baby lotion will do!  The doctor said today that we may get to bring him home Friday and then he decided to drop his heart rate and stop breathing while I was feeding him this afternoon.  His heart rate dropped to 65 from 160 and he got a little dusky in color.  He started to bring his heart rate up after about 5 seconds, but it bought him a few more days in the NICU.  I dealt with situations like this in the recovery room all the time and knew exactly what to do, but when it is your own child you freak out!  I'm afraid I will never sleep when he comes home now!  Blake is doing great with his feeds and has been eating more than he has to at most of his feeds today.  He has to eat at least 38cc's per feed and most feeds today he ate 40-45!  He is a hungry boy.  Today Blake weighed 4 pounds 3.8 ounces!
Like putting a cat in water!

He is not fond of getting all the dirt off!

Bath time is over...happy clean boy!
